I've been using this recipe to make Hot Cross Buns at Easter for years now, and it never fails! I know that working with yeast and dough can be a bit daunting, but it really is so easy, and I would never recommend a recipe that wasn't straightforward and simple! If a recipe is too involved, I usually lose interest, so you can always rest assured that if I suggest it, it's going to be a breeze.
I did make one change though, because I'm not a huge fan of sultanas... But I am a huge fan of chocolate (if you haven't noticed already!) So instead of sultanas and mixed peel, I added Cadbury milk chocolate chips. For those of you who are hot cross buns purists, and go with the sultanas year in, year out, I implore you to try the chocolate. There's nothing better than slathering soft butter on a warm hot cross bun, with choc chips melting and oozing out.
Ok, my mouth just started watering talking about it, I think I need to make another batch already! (Last night's batch is already gone, after I did the late night rounds dropping them to my family, and brought what was left into Coven HQ for the team).
Anyway, I hope you all have a beautiful Easter, filled with family, friends, laughter, and of course, lots of chocolate!
Sian xx
